Wow! Can you believe that this will be our 10th anime double feature? So we’re going back to the beautiful velvet curtained Regent Theatre where we did our first Foolish for Ghibli to set the mood for our newest experience – BIG ANIME DARK ROOM where we show you the thought provoking anime that hit us hard and kept us talking.
Maquia: When the Promised Flower Blooms has a 100% rating on Rotten Tomatoes for a reason. It is beautifully animated, epic, and action packed. Maquia poignantly shows us both the ties that bind us in love and war and the almost irresistible draw that we have to be true to ourselves.
A Silent Voice shows us how a seemingly passing moment can have huge consequences. With lush animation and a bright palette, witness how Shoko’s hearing disability isolates her from her peers when the school bully Shoya turns his focus on her. Years later, discover how their class deals with the challenges of growth, forgiveness, and the realization that no circumstance is black and white and that it is never too late to change the course of your life.

WARNING: The themes in A Silent Voice may trigger some viewers as they relate to bullying, mental health, and life and death.

HISTORY: In April 2017, Culture Toronto held it's first Studio Ghibli Double Feature because we love anime, and Hayao Miyazaki does some of the best anime movies ever. Since the date was April 1st, we called those events Foolish for Ghibli! As we branch out using other anime, we'll never forget the standard we started with.

Q: When will I receive my tickets?
A: We don't actually send out physical tickets. When you buy your tickets, we put your name on a guest list while you are sent a digital confirmation of your purchase.
Q: What themes are tackled in A Silent Voice
A: A Silent Voice tackles issues of parental/emotional abuse, abelism, bullying, depression and suicide. We chose this film because we feel it is an incredible work of art that depicts these very serious real world problems in a mature and honest way. We truly believe and stand by this film as a work of rare cinematic art on par with works like Spirited Away and Grave of the Fireflies. That said there are some that will find the content on display disturbing. It is not our intention to exclude anyone but to give fair and full warning of some of this film's content so as not to unintentionally harm anyone of the audience who have shown us such love and support over the years.
Q: Do I have to cosplay?
A: Of course you don't! Come any way you want. There is a cosplay contest though that we will all watch and enjoy, and the prizes are $$$.
Q: Is this a family friendly event?
A: The films are totally appropriate for kids.
Q: Are the movies subtitled or dubbed?
A: When you come to our anime events, you start to get polls about what we should watch next and whether they should be dubbed or subbed. We cater to our loyal followers. If you are asked to, please vote!
Q: Is there a refund policy?
A: We have a no refund policy but if you explain your situation, we can usually figure something out.
We made great memories so far!
Lets make more :)
